Jackson, Miss. – Drivers across central and southern Mississippi may face dangerous commutes Wednesday morning as dense fog blankets the region, reducing visibility to as low as one mile.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. CDT for a wide swath of the state, including Jackson, Meridian, Hattiesburg, and Natchez. The advisory covers much of central, east central, south central, and southwest Mississippi. Motorists on I-55, I-20, and US 49 should use extra caution.

Cities such as Brookhaven, Laurel, and Crystal Springs are experiencing fog that could make road travel hazardous, especially along rural highways and early morning school bus routes. Local agencies have not reported closures, but officials urge drivers to slow down, use headlights, and increase following distance.

The fog developed overnight due to calm winds and lingering moisture, a common pattern for this time of year. This is the 13th Dense Fog Advisory issued by NWS Jackson in 2025.

Conditions are expected to improve by mid-morning as temperatures rise. Updates will be issued if visibility fails to improve or if new hazards develop.
