East Grand Forks, MN – Motorists in northwest Minnesota are urged to prepare for hazardous travel conditions today as a winter weather advisory remains in effect. Slippery roads, snow showers, and strong gusty winds are creating significant delays across key routes, including I-29 and I-94.

According to the National Weather Service, a flash freeze is underway due to rapidly falling temperatures, freezing wet surfaces from overnight rainfall. Snow showers are expected to linger until mid-morning, accompanied by gusty northwest winds up to 45 mph. This combination is drastically reducing visibility, making commutes dangerous.

Travelers should exercise caution, slow down, and allow extra time for their routes. Blowing snow and icy patches will continue to impact roadways through the day, especially on highways and rural areas. The Minnesota Department of Transportation is actively treating roads, but drivers should still anticipate slick conditions.

Looking ahead, temperatures will plummet further Monday night, with lows nearing -11°F. Snow chances diminish by Tuesday, but wind chills as low as -30°F are expected midweek, increasing the risk of frostbite for those exposed to the cold for prolonged periods.

Wednesday is forecasted to bring some relief with sunny skies, though high temperatures will remain below freezing. Another round of light snow is possible Friday, but accumulations are expected to be minimal.

Residents are advised to monitor updates from local authorities, limit outdoor exposure, and stay prepared for severe weather conditions this week.
