Duluth, MN – Drivers in Duluth are urged to exercise caution this morning as dense freezing fog blankets the area, creating icy roadways and limited visibility. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until noon, potentially impacting major routes like Interstate 35 and local streets.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, patchy freezing fog may persist into the afternoon, with temperatures hovering near freezing. The advisory warns of slippery conditions, especially on untreated roads and sidewalks. Residents should plan extra travel time and consider delaying non-essential trips until conditions improve.

The week ahead will see a sharp cooling trend starting Tuesday, with a high near 28°F accompanied by northwest winds of 10-15 mph. By New Year’s Eve, temperatures will plummet to a daytime high of just 20°F, with blustery conditions making it feel even colder. Breezy winds, gusting up to 25 mph, may also create light lake effect snow along the South Shore, affecting northern Wisconsin.

Looking ahead, New Year’s Day will continue the cold streak with a high of 20°F and brisk winds. By Thursday, Duluth can expect partial sunshine, though highs will struggle to reach 17°F. Overnight lows throughout the week will dip into the single digits or teens, requiring extra precautions for outdoor activities.

Residents are advised to stay updated on changing weather conditions by monitoring local forecasts. Drivers should equip vehicles with winter emergency kits and prepare for reduced visibility during morning commutes.
