Boston, MA – Residents across Massachusetts should prepare for heavy rain and dense fog today as a storm system moves through the area, impacting travel and visibility on major routes like I-90. The National Weather Service predicts rain through the morning, tapering off after 11 a.m., followed by patchy fog until midday. Highs will reach 58°F today, but soggy conditions could slow holiday traffic.

According to the National Weather Service, rain amounts will range from a quarter to half an inch, and gusty winds could reach 26 mph by this afternoon. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, as visibility may be reduced significantly in some areas, especially during peak commuting hours. Those traveling for New Year’s Eve celebrations should plan ahead and allow extra time.

Looking ahead, skies will clear tonight with lows around 39°F, offering some relief for late-night travelers. However, New Year’s Eve on Tuesday is expected to bring increasing clouds and another round of rain by late evening. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph, posing a risk for outdoor celebrations.

The rain will persist into New Year’s Day, with the heaviest showers arriving after 3 p.m. Highs will remain mild at 50°F, but east winds could create hazardous conditions. By Thursday, drier weather is expected, with mostly sunny skies and cooler highs near 40°F.

For now, residents should remain vigilant today and tomorrow, monitor local forecasts, and consider alternate plans for New Year’s Eve.
