Duluth, MN – The National Weather Service in Duluth, Minnesota, has issued an alert for potential localized flooding starting this weekend and continuing into Monday. Higher rain rates and several rounds of storms moving over the same locations are expected to bring significant rainfall and minor flooding.
According to the National Weather Service, most thunderstorms will be progressive as they move through the Northland. However, areas experiencing repeated storms could see high rain rates leading to localized heavy rainfall. Forecasts predict rainfall amounts ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 inches, with some localized areas potentially receiving over 3 inches of rain.
The heaviest rain is difficult to pinpoint, but guidance suggests that the areas most at risk are Brainerd, Aitkin, and Grand Rapids, which could experience up to 1.5 inches of rain. Duluth, Ely, and International Falls are also expected to see significant rainfall.
