Grand Forks, N.D. – Strong winds up to 60 mph could sweep through eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota Saturday afternoon as isolated severe thunderstorms develop across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a cold front will push into the area between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, triggering scattered storms. While tornadoes are not expected, damaging wind gusts are the primary concern, with hail up to the size of quarters also possible.

Cities including Fargo, Grand Forks, Thief River Falls, and Detroit Lakes sit within the highest local risk zone, rated Level 1 for isolated severe activity. While the storm threat is not widespread, residents are urged to stay weather aware and monitor alerts. Outdoor events and travel during the late afternoon and early evening may be disrupted.

The storms are expected to move quickly, but downed branches, power outages, and blowing debris are possible. Secure outdoor items, charge electronics, and identify safe shelter areas now.

Storm risk decreases Saturday night, but additional updates may follow if conditions intensify.
