Minneapolis, MN – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for much of Minnesota, effective from Thursday afternoon until 9:00 p.m. The watch covers areas including northwest Iowa, western Wisconsin, and parts of Lake Superior.

According to the NWS, severe storms are expected to intensify as they move east-northeast across the region. The primary threats include damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph and large hail up to 2 inches in diameter. A tornado or two is also possible near a warm front, adding to the urgency of the situation.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and monitor local weather updates throughout the evening. The NWS emphasizes that a Severe Thunderstorm Watch indicates favorable conditions for severe weather, which can develop quickly. In addition to the severe weather, aviation activities may experience extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts up to 60 knots.

Safety precautions are essential. Stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and be prepared to take shelter if conditions worsen. The NWS will provide updates as the situation develops, ensuring that communities in the affected areas receive timely information.
