Minneapolis, MN – Extremely cold weather will descend on Minnesota this weekend, bringing life-threatening wind chills as low as -40 degrees. The Twin Cities and surrounding areas should prepare for dangerously cold conditions starting Saturday night and continuing through Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, wind chills could reach -25 on Saturday night, plunging further to -40 by Sunday morning. Gusty winds up to 35 mph will accompany the Arctic air, exacerbating the already frigid temperatures. Residents are urged to bundle up, limit time outdoors, and monitor weather updates for changing conditions.

Saturday will begin with mostly sunny skies, but temperatures will peak near 7 degrees before falling sharply overnight. Northwest winds will gust up to 30 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions on major roads, including I-94 and I-35. Visibility could be reduced during isolated snow showers Friday evening, and icy patches are expected on untreated roads.

Sunday will see highs struggling to reach 2 degrees, with wind chills remaining dangerously low. The cold snap will persist into Monday, with lows dipping to -15 Monday night and highs near -6 during the day. Gusty conditions will ease slightly by Monday but remain impactful.

Local emergency services advise checking on vulnerable neighbors, keeping emergency kits in vehicles, and ensuring pets are protected from the cold. Schools and businesses should stay updated on weather alerts as closures may become necessary.
