Nashville, Tenn. – Strong to severe thunderstorms could sweep across Middle Tennessee Tuesday afternoon into the night, bringing the threat of damaging winds and large hail to cities including Nashville, Clarksville, and Franklin.
According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, the greatest storm activity is expected between 1 p.m. and 11 p.m. CDT. While the tornado threat remains low, areas north of I-40 face a Level 2 (Slight Risk) for severe storms, which may include isolated hail up to one inch and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph. Cities farther south, including Columbia and Murfreesboro, are under a Level 1 (Marginal Risk) but should remain alert.
Storms may cause localized power outages and downed tree limbs, especially during the evening commute. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, stay indoors during warnings, and have multiple ways to receive alerts. Emergency managers also recommend charging mobile devices ahead of time in case of power loss.
This round of storms kicks off an unsettled stretch of weather, with daily thunderstorm chances through Friday and highs running well above normal in the low to mid-80s.
