Huntsville, Ala. – Afternoon thunderstorms could dampen travel and outdoor plans across north Alabama this week, with increasing rain chances and highs lingering in the 80s through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, a mix of warm temperatures and rising moisture is triggering scattered showers and thunderstorms each afternoon, beginning today and continuing through Friday. Rain chances range from 20% Tuesday to as high as 80% by Thursday. Most storms are expected after 2 p.m., potentially impacting evening commutes.

Cities across the Tennessee Valley — including Decatur, Scottsboro, and Florence — may see localized downpours, gusty winds, and brief lightning delays, particularly on Thursday and Friday when instability peaks. Cooler air begins to settle in Friday night, bringing lows into the upper 50s and highs in the mid-70s. Saturday is shaping up to be the driest day, with mostly sunny skies and more comfortable temperatures.

Drivers are advised to use caution during afternoon travel, especially on I-565 and U.S. 231. Residents should secure loose outdoor items and monitor alerts for any stronger storm development.

Storm chances taper off by the weekend, but updates will continue as timing and severity become clearer.
