Memphis, Tennessee – Scattered severe storms could sweep across West Tennessee and the Mid-South Friday afternoon, packing damaging winds and the threat of isolated large hail.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Level 2 out of 5 “Slight Risk” for severe weather covers all of West Tennessee, eastern Arkansas, and northern Mississippi for June 6. Storms are expected to move west to east during the afternoon and evening hours, with damaging straight-line winds as the primary concern. A tornado cannot be ruled out.
Cities under the threat include Memphis, Jackson, Dyersburg, Union City, and Jonesboro. The timing of peak activity is expected between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m., potentially impacting school dismissals, evening commutes, and outdoor events. Residents should secure loose outdoor items, fully charge devices, and avoid unnecessary travel during storms.
This system follows a stretch of calmer weather, but the setup resembles past early summer outbreaks in the region. Heavy downpours could briefly reduce visibility and pond roads.
Warnings remain possible through late Friday night. Stay tuned to local alerts and NOAA weather radio for real-time updates.
