State College, PA – Unseasonable heat across the Mid-Atlantic will break later this week as widespread rain and thunderstorms move in Thursday afternoon, bringing relief from highs in the upper 80s and raising flooding concerns in the Susquehanna River region.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures across Pennsylvania, Maryland, and southern New York are running above average today and Thursday, with highs topping out at 85–88°F. But a frontal boundary arriving Thursday evening will drop temperatures and deliver 1 to 1.6 inches of rain across central Pennsylvania and the upper Susquehanna basin, including the Chemung and North Branch rivers.

In Unionville, PA, skies remain mostly sunny through Thursday morning before thunderstorms develop by late afternoon. Showers will become widespread by Friday with an 80% chance of rain. Annapolis, MD, will also see highs near 85°F before scattered storms roll in Friday evening. In Pratts Hollow, NY, a sweltering 88°F high today gives way to likely downpours and possible thunderstorms Thursday night into Friday.

Above-average streamflows may contribute to localized flooding, particularly in low-lying areas. Residents are advised to clear storm drains, charge devices, and stay weather-aware through the end of the week.

Rain and storm chances linger into Saturday before drier weather returns Sunday.
