Alexandria, KY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington, OH, has confirmed that two separate microbursts caused significant damage in Kentucky and Indiana this week. The microbursts, which are localized columns of rapidly descending air, affected areas around Alexandria, KY, on Monday and Vevay, IN, on Tuesday.
Microbursts are often mistaken for tornadoes due to the similar damage they cause. According to the NWS, the microbursts impacted less than 2.5 miles for under five minutes each. The events illustrate the dangers posed by isolated thunderstorms, which can produce severe localized damage without warning.
NWS Wilmington OH used radar imagery to confirm the microbursts. Residents in the affected areas are urged to stay informed about future storms, as these weather events can strike with little notice.
