Lincoln, IL – Severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep through central and southeast Illinois this afternoon and evening, potentially disrupting Labor Day weekend plans. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln forecasts storms between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., particularly along the I-72/Danville corridor. These storms could bring wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail.

According to the NWS, outdoor activities scheduled for Friday night, including sports events, could face significant interruptions. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and be prepared to seek shelter if conditions worsen.

As the storms subside, conditions improve through Saturday, with additional showers expected near and south of I-70. By Sunday, the weather will clear, and Labor Day promises sunshine and mild temperatures in the mid-to-upper 70s, providing a perfect end to the holiday weekend.

Despite the severe weather expected today, Illinois residents can look forward to a beautiful and calm Labor Day.
