Gaylord, MI – Freezing rain is set to impact northern Michigan overnight, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions into Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Tuesday, depending on the location. The affected areas include parts of Northern Lower Michigan and the eastern Upper Peninsula, covering counties such as Antrim, Cheboygan, Alpena, and Chippewa.

Forecasters expect total ice accumulations of less than a tenth of an inch, which could result in slick roads, sidewalks, and bridges. The Tuesday morning commute may be impacted, especially in areas with untreated surfaces.

The first wave of freezing rain will begin around 7 p.m. in central Northern Lower Michigan, followed by a later onset at 9 p.m. for coastal areas and 11 p.m. for Chippewa and Mackinac Counties. Conditions should improve after 10 a.m. Tuesday, as temperatures rise above freezing.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and exercise caution on untreated roads. Stay updated with the latest weather alerts and road conditions before heading out.
