Gaylord, Mich. – Sunshine will dominate much of Michigan this weekend, but drivers and residents in the Northern Lower Peninsula should prepare for a shift starting late Sunday as rain chances increase into early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a weak disturbance is expected to move into Lake Huron Sunday evening, bringing showers that may persist through at least Tuesday. The highest rainfall potential is centered over northeast lower Michigan, including Alpena, Oscoda, and Tawas City, where light to moderate rain could affect early morning commutes and localized travel.
Saturday and early Sunday will remain dry with highs in the 50s to low 60s for much of the Northern Lower and Eastern Upper Peninsula. However, lakeshore communities like Petoskey and Rogers City will remain cooler, with highs only reaching the 40s. By Monday, scattered showers and overcast skies are forecast to return, accompanied by an easterly breeze.
Travelers should monitor updated forecasts and consider delaying outdoor plans or road trips early next week. Roads could become slick, especially near the lakes where cooler temps may linger.
Rain chances persist into Tuesday, with updates expected daily. Additional advisories may be issued if the disturbance strengthens over Lake Huron.
