South Lyon, MI — Three 16-year-olds from South Lyon East High School have been charged for making violent threats against their school. The teens appeared in juvenile court Tuesday, following arrests related to social media posts. Authorities reported the teens had threatened to bomb or shoot up the school.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, these charges follow five similar cases reported over the last week. Sheriff Michael Bouchard stressed that any such threats, whether intended as jokes or not, would be treated as serious crimes. The students face charges ranging from making a false report of terrorism to committing intentional violence.

Two of the students are being held in Oakland County Children’s Village. The third student was released under strict conditions, including a ban on social media.

Parents and teachers were commended for bringing the threats to the attention of law enforcement. Bouchard urged families to talk to their children about the seriousness of such actions.
