Kentland, IN – Corporal Brandon Schreiber, a Newton County officer fatally wounded while assisting authorities in Iroquois County, Illinois, will be honored with a multi-state procession on Thursday, September 12, 2024. The escort will begin in Springfield, Illinois, passing through Iroquois County, and ending in Kentland, Indiana.
Corporal Schreiber was shot while pursuing a suspect who repeatedly crossed the Illinois-Indiana state line. He was wounded in Iroquois County and later succumbed to his injuries after several days in the hospital.
The procession will leave Springfield at 9 a.m., passing through Watseka at 11:30 a.m. before arriving in Kentland at 11:40 a.m. According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the escort will pause briefly in front of the sheriff’s office.
Final memorial service details are forthcoming. On Sunday, September 15, at 7 p.m., a Blue Light ceremony will take place at the Newton County Courthouse square. The community is invited to pay their respects, and Corporal Schreiber’s patrol car is stationed on the courthouse lawn for flower tributes.
Corporal Schreiber’s dedication and ultimate sacrifice will be remembered by both the Indiana and Illinois communities he served.
