Harrison Township, MI – A 45-year-old Harrison Township man was arraigned today at 41B District Court, facing serious charges related to an alleged bomb hoax. The suspect, Robert Fitz, was charged with one count of False Report or Threat of Terrorism, a 20-year felony, and one count of sending explosives with intent to frighten, a 5-year felony.
According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, Fitz allegedly rigged a propane tank in his vehicle to prevent its repossession. The incident occurred Monday morning in the 24000 block of Bradford Drive. Deputies arrived to find copper wires running from the propane tanks, giving the appearance of an explosive device.
The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad determined the setup was a hoax. The area was evacuated as a precaution, but no real danger was present. Fitz was taken into custody without incident and issued a $50,000 bond.
