Jasper County, IN – A threat of violence surfaced on social media against students at Kankakee Valley Middle School (KVMS) Tuesday night, prompting swift action from local authorities.
According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department (JCSD), the threat was posted on Snapchat, and an investigation began immediately. School officials increased security on Wednesday, while officers worked to identify the source of the threat.
A subject has been identified, and legal action is pending. Schools have now returned to their regular schedules. The school corporation emphasized that student safety remains the top priority.
“Actions such as this come with significant disciplinary and legal consequences,” said Superintendent Don Street, urging parents to discuss the dangers of making threats. The school district will follow its disciplinary procedures and legal protocols.
School officials commended the JCSD for their rapid response and thanked students and parents for alerting the administration. The investigation is complete, but school officials will remain vigilant in matters of security.
