Miami, Florida – South Florida is heating up Thursday as Saharan Dust moves across the region, dropping rain chances and pushing afternoon highs into the upper 80s and low 90s.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, drier air from the dust layer is limiting thunderstorm development, particularly along the East Coast metro. Rain chances drop to just 30% in Miami and Fort Lauderdale today, while inland spots like Immokalee and La Belle still hold onto a 56%–58% chance of scattered storms.
High temperatures are expected to reach 90°F in Naples and Homestead, with Miami and West Palm Beach hovering around 88°F. The dust also tends to enhance sunrises and sunsets, but it may worsen air quality for sensitive groups.
Drivers may face slick roads in areas where isolated storms still develop, especially in the interior and Gulf Coast. Stay hydrated and avoid outdoor exertion during peak afternoon heat.
Conditions will remain hot and drier than normal into Friday, with limited storm coverage. Additional weather statements may follow if dust persists or heat indexes rise further.
