Paducah, Kentucky – A stalled front is setting the stage for damaging storms across Kentucky Friday, with isolated tornadoes and gusty winds possible from late morning into the early afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a stray severe storm or two can’t be ruled out Thursday, but the greater threat arrives Friday as the front slowly pushes east. A combination of instability and wind shear could trigger strong to severe thunderstorms, particularly across western and central Kentucky.

The NWS warns that gusts may reach damaging speeds, and if atmospheric conditions align, a tornado or two could form. However, the strength of the storms may be tempered by early cloud cover and rain, which could reduce available energy. Cities under elevated risk include Paducah, Owensboro, and Bowling Green, with I-24 and portions of the Western Kentucky Parkway potentially impacted.

Saturday may bring another round of thunderstorms, with a slightly higher severe potential as the stalled front lingers. Residents should remain weather-aware, charge mobile devices, and review tornado safety plans.

Warnings remain in effect through Friday afternoon, with updates expected as models refine storm timing and intensity.
