Memphis, Tennessee – Temperatures pushing near 90°F Friday could challenge records before a sharp shift brings widespread storms and heavy rain by Saturday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, highs will reach around 89°F in Memphis and Jackson, just shy of record levels near 91°F. The warm, humid conditions will set the stage for a much wetter pattern heading into the weekend.
Rain chances remain low Friday, but conditions change quickly Saturday as a cold front approaches. Storm coverage will surge between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., with rain chances reaching 90% to 95% across West Tennessee, north Mississippi, and eastern Arkansas. Cities including Memphis, Jonesboro, Tupelo, and Dyersburg are likely to see steady rounds of showers and thunderstorms during this window.
Localized downpours could lead to brief street flooding, especially in low-lying or urban areas. Travel along I-40, I-55, and U.S. 78 may be impacted during peak rainfall.
Rain will taper off early Sunday morning, followed by cooler and drier air to start the new week. Additional updates are expected as the timing and intensity of Saturday’s storms become clearer.
