Tennessee – Headlights cut through a wall of gray this morning as dense fog drops visibility to just a quarter mile across the Memphis metro, creating immediate hazards for drivers during the early commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m., with visibility at or below 0.25 miles across portions of West Tennessee, including Shelby County and surrounding areas. Major routes like I-40, I-55, and I-240 are seeing reduced visibility, increasing the risk of sudden slowdowns and minor collisions.
Conditions may improve quickly after mid-morning as sunshine builds in, pushing highs near 70 degrees today. Still, lingering damp pavement could create slick spots in shaded areas. Drivers should use low-beam headlights, reduce speed, and allow extra following distance.
The pattern shifts fast into the workweek. Monday brings clear skies and a warmer high near 77 degrees, with calm winds supporting a smooth commute. By Tuesday, temperatures climb further into the low 80s with mostly sunny skies, signaling a strong spring warmup across the Mid-South.
Midweek remains dry and warm, with highs around 81 degrees Wednesday. However, a more active pattern develops late week. By Thursday night into Friday, rain and thunderstorms return, with precipitation chances rising to 60–70 percent. While severe weather is not guaranteed, brief downpours and lightning could disrupt travel and outdoor plans.
For now, the immediate concern remains this morning’s fog. Plan extra time if heading out, especially on highways and river crossings where visibility can change quickly.
