Massachusetts – Snow whips sideways across Boston Harbor this morning, burying sidewalks and rattling windows with fierce gusts. Visibility drops below a quarter mile at times. Plows struggle to keep up as heavy bands sweep inland from the Atlantic.
The National Weather Service in Boston/Norton reports a Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday. Additional snow totals between 14 and 21 inches are expected across eastern and southeastern Massachusetts and into Rhode Island. Wind gusts may reach 75 mph, creating whiteout conditions and near-impossible travel.
Roads along I-93, Route 1, and the Massachusetts Turnpike are snow covered. Blowing snow sharply reduces visibility. Officials urge residents to stay off the roads unless travel is essential. If you must drive, carry a winter kit and expect sudden closures.
Along the coast, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect through 7 a.m. Minor flooding is possible in low-lying areas near Boston Harbor, Revere, and Gloucester. Up to one foot of inundation above ground level could impact vulnerable shore roads around high tide. Rough surf may cause splash-over during the morning hours.
Snow tapers late tonight with gradual clearing by Tuesday. Highs reach the low 30s Tuesday under brighter skies. Bitter cold follows Tuesday night with lows near the teens, increasing the risk of flash freezing where slush refreezes.
By Wednesday, temperatures rebound into the upper 30s with a chance of rain or snow. Milder air pushes in late week, with highs near 39 Thursday and low 40s Friday into Saturday. Longer-range trends suggest above-normal temperatures developing into early March, hinting at early spring warmth.
