Virginia – Wind whips across the Oceanfront this morning, rattling signs and pushing light snow and rain sideways along Atlantic Avenue. Temperatures sit near 34 degrees, but gusts over 40 mph make it feel much colder. Sand and spray mix with flakes in bursts, cutting visibility at times.
The National Weather Service in Wakefield reports a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m., with light snow accumulations up to 1 inch possible across parts of southeast Virginia. A Wind Advisory continues through mid-morning with northwest winds 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. A Coastal Flood Advisory also remains in effect through early afternoon for vulnerable shoreline areas.
Drivers along I-264, Shore Drive, and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel should expect crosswinds and slick patches, especially on elevated ramps. Brief snow showers may reduce visibility. Slow down and keep both hands on the wheel.
Minor coastal flooding is possible around high tide. Low-lying sections near Rudee Inlet and parts of the Oceanfront could see water on roads. Avoid driving through standing saltwater.
Skies gradually improve later today with highs near 41 degrees. Clearing tonight drops temperatures to the upper 20s, raising a risk of refreeze where pavement remains wet.
Tuesday turns sunny with highs near 42. Warmer air builds midweek, with highs reaching the mid-50s by Wednesday. Rain chances return Thursday with highs near the upper 50s. Late-week trends point toward continued moderation, reinforcing early hints of spring warmth heading into early March.
