Rhode Island – Snow blasts sideways across downtown Providence this morning, stinging faces and erasing skylines in sheets of white. Visibility drops below a quarter mile at times, and wind gusts are howling past 60 mph along the coast. Plows struggle to keep pace as fresh bands quickly reclaim cleared pavement.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday for eastern and southeastern Massachusetts and all of Rhode Island. Additional snow totals between 14 and 21 inches are expected. Wind gusts could reach 75 mph, strong enough to down tree limbs and power lines.
Travel is extremely dangerous. I-95, Route 6, and local bridges are snow-covered with drifting in open areas. Whiteout conditions may develop quickly through the day. Officials urge residents to delay non-essential travel. If you must drive, carry a winter kit and prepare for sudden visibility drops.
Snow intensity gradually eases later tonight, but bitter air follows. Tuesday turns mostly sunny with a high near 31 degrees. Temperatures plunge to around 11 Tuesday night, increasing the risk of flash freezing where slush refreezes on untreated roads and sidewalks.
Another round of snow arrives Wednesday, mainly before 10 a.m., then may mix with rain briefly. Highs reach the upper 30s. Thursday brings partial sunshine and highs near 41.
Looking ahead, late-week temperatures trend milder into the 40s, and early signals in the 6- to 10-day outlook suggest above-normal readings into early March. After this intense February blizzard, spring warmth is slowly edging closer.
