New York, NY – A marine weather advisory remains in effect for waters around Long Island Sound and New York Harbor as dense fog and strong winds create hazardous conditions for boaters.

According to the National Weather Service, a Dense Fog Advisory is in place until 8 a.m. Sunday, reducing visibility to one nautical mile or less. The advisory affects Long Island Sound, New York Harbor, and coastal waters from Sandy Hook, NJ, to Montauk Point, NY. Mariners should exercise extreme caution and use proper fog signals while navigating.

In addition, a Small Craft Advisory is active until 6 a.m. Monday, warning of south winds between 15 to 25 knots, with gusts reaching 30 knots. Seas are expected to rise between 6 to 11 feet, posing risks to smaller vessels. Affected areas include the south shore and eastern bays of Long Island, as well as waters extending from Delaware Bay to New Jersey’s coastal regions.

Inexperienced mariners are advised to avoid navigating in these conditions. Those on the water should ensure running lights are on and use radar and compass navigation when necessary. The National Weather Service urges boaters to remain alert for updates as conditions evolve.
