KENNEY, IL – Gunfire erupted in the 600 block of N 300 E Rd Sunday afternoon, leaving one person dead and four others injured. Now a manhunt is underway for the armed suspect.

According to authorities the alarming events unfolded just after 3 p.m. on Sunday, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement. They discovered a man with multiple gunshot wounds, who was rushed to Clinton Hospital and later transferred to Carle Hospital in Champaign, where he remains stable.

The alleged shooter, Jose De Jesus Gomez Munoz, is reportedly armed with an AR-15, and has managed to elude capture so far, prompting an initial shelter-in-place order for Kenney residents that has since been lifted as of 9:25 a.m. Monday after authorities reported to believe Munoz is no longer in the immediate vicinity.

A manhunt for Munoz has taken on an international dimension, with ties to Mexico coming to light. Munoz is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He fled the scene in a white 2019 Honda Accord with the license plate DT 50632.

Formal charges of murder and other offenses have been filed against Munoz, if you spot the suspect authorities ask you not to engage and contact police.
