Man Arrested on Attempted Murder Charges of Woman Outside Illinois Gym

ORLAND PARK, IL – A man is now in custody on charges of attempted murder after a harrowing incident unfolded outside a gym in Orland Park. 

According to Orland Park Police reports the alleged attack occurred on Sunday, August 27th, around 2 p.m. involving a woman with whom the suspect had an on-again, off-again relationship.

The victim, whose identity has not been revealed, was reportedly stabbed in the parking lot of the Lifetime Fitness facility located at 16333 S. La Grange Road. Law enforcement responded promptly, and the victim was swiftly transported to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox for treatment. Her condition is currently listed as stable.

The suspect, identified as Peter F. Surdyk, 43 of Chicago Ridge, initially managed to evade capture and fled the scene. However, authorities later apprehended him near the intersection of 149th Street and La Grange Road.

According to investigators, Surdyk had been waiting for the victim to exit the fitness facility before launching the alleged attack. 

Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office has approved multiple felony charges against Surdyk, including Attempted Murder. 

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in shedding light on the events leading up to the attack.
