Caribou, Maine – Warm, sunny weather will continue across Maine through the weekend, giving residents and visitors several days of comfortable summer conditions, but anyone heading to the coast should be aware that dangerously cold ocean water remains a serious hazard despite the pleasant weather.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, highs Friday will reach the upper 70s to lower 80s across much of northern and central Maine under mostly sunny skies with light winds. Overnight temperatures will cool into the 50s, and similar dry and warm conditions are expected Saturday and Sunday. The next opportunity for showers and thunderstorms is expected Tuesday.
Communities including Caribou, Presque Isle, Houlton, Millinocket, Bangor and surrounding areas can expect favorable conditions for outdoor activities throughout the weekend. Dry weather will also benefit travelers and those attending festivals, camping or hiking across the state.
Along the coast, however, a Beach Hazard Statement remains in effect as ocean temperatures linger in the lower 50s, generally around 50 to 55 degrees. Even on warm afternoons, accidental immersion in water this cold can quickly lead to hypothermia. Swimmers, paddlers and boaters are urged to wear a properly fitted life jacket and remain alert for tides, localized currents and changing wind conditions.
The dry stretch is expected to last through the weekend, with the National Weather Service monitoring the potential for rain and thunderstorms returning early next week. Additional statements or advisories may be issued if conditions change.
