Caribou, Maine – Residents across northern and central Maine should remain alert for flooding issues as rounds of soaking rainfall continue to impact the region, with another significant period of wet weather expected later this week.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a widespread area of rain moved west to east across Maine Monday morning, bringing the potential for isolated flash flooding and localized travel impacts. Forecasters warned that dirt roads, ATV trails and low-lying areas are particularly vulnerable to washouts and standing water.

Communities including Caribou, Presque Isle, Houlton, Millinocket and Greenville have experienced periods of steady rainfall, with lingering showers and isolated thunderstorms expected to continue across parts of northern Maine through the afternoon.

While conditions should gradually improve for a time, attention is already shifting to another round of showers and thunderstorms expected Thursday into Friday morning. Forecast guidance indicates widespread rain chances of 65% to 85% across much of northern Maine during that period.

Repeated rainfall on already saturated ground could increase the risk of localized flooding, especially in poor-drainage areas and locations that receive heavier downpours. Motorists should watch for water-covered roads and avoid driving through flooded areas.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts, secure outdoor plans and remain prepared for additional weather advisories later this week as another storm system approaches the state.
