Rockville, IN – A vehicle pursuit that began in Vermillion County ended in Parke County Tuesday evening after deputies deployed tire deflation devices, leading to the arrest of a Danville man.
According to the Parke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified at approximately 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, of a pursuit that began on U.S. 36 in Vermillion County.
Authorities said the Indiana State Police attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation, but the driver fled eastbound on U.S. 36 into Parke County.
Parke County deputies successfully deployed tire deflation devices on U.S. 36 near the intersection of Cooke Road, bringing the pursuit to a safe conclusion.
Investigators identified the driver as David J. Hopkins, 41, of Danville, Illinois. Officials said Hopkins pulled into the parking lot of a NAPA Auto Parts store, where he was taken into custody without further incident.
Hopkins was transported to the Vermillion County Jail, where he is expected to face a charge of resisting law enforcement.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the original traffic violation or whether additional charges may be filed.
The charge is an allegation, and David J. Hopkins is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
