Sidney, ME – Three people were hospitalized after a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Sidney Monday afternoon, according to the Maine State Police.
According to the Maine State Police, troopers from Troop I responded at approximately 3:33 p.m. Monday, July 20, to a crash involving four vehicles on Interstate 95 northbound near mile marker 123.
Investigators said traffic had slowed because of an active traffic stop being conducted by a state trooper. A 2004 Dodge Ram driven by Derrick Forbes, 58, of Brewer, was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander.
The impact caused Forbes’ pickup truck to sideswipe a 2011 Honda Pilot, followed by an additional sideswipe involving a 2017 Toyota Tundra, according to state police.
Authorities said the driver and passenger of the Mitsubishi Outlander were transported to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda Pilot was taken to Thayer Hospital in Waterville with non-life-threatening injuries.
Both northbound travel lanes were initially shut down while emergency crews moved the damaged vehicles and debris to the shoulder. The right lane remained closed until the scene was fully cleared.
The crash remains under investigation.
Maine State Police were assisted at the scene by the Traffic Safety Unit, Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, Sidney Fire Department, Delta Ambulance, Dostie’s Towing, and Ready Road Towing.
