West Chicago, IL – A DuPage County judge has granted prosecutors’ request to detain a 43-year-old man accused of violently beating another man near the West Chicago Metra station, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.
According to DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and West Chicago Police Chief Colin Fleury, Steven Davis, 43, appeared in First Appearance Court on Monday and was charged with one count of aggravated battery in a public place and one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, both Class 3 felonies.
Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, when West Chicago police responded to a disturbance on a footpath beneath the Wilson Avenue bridge near the Metra train depot.
According to prosecutors, officers found Davis allegedly walking away from the underpass with blood on his hands and clothing. Nearby, officers discovered an unconscious man lying among rocks beneath the bridge. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where doctors determined he had suffered a broken rib, two fractured vertebrae, and bleeding and fluid around both eyes, according to prosecutors.
Investigators allege Davis repeatedly beat the victim, kicked him while he was on the ground, and continued the assault after the victim attempted to get up. Prosecutors also allege Davis kicked rocks at the victim during the attack.
Judge Joshua Dieden granted the state’s petition to detain Davis pending trial. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 17, 2026.
The allegations against Davis have been made by prosecutors and law enforcement. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
