York, Maine – A deer strike on the Maine Turnpike Tuesday evening set off a chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles, including a fuel truck and a BMW crossover, according to state police.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:13 p.m. near mile marker 13 southbound. Authorities say the driver of a red Mitsubishi Mirage struck a deer in the center lane, causing the car to become disabled. The driver was able to exit the vehicle safely and reach a secure area off the roadway.

Moments later, a commercial fuel truck traveling behind the crash site was reportedly unable to stop in time and struck the disabled Mitsubishi. The impact pushed the car into the median and caused the truck to veer right, where it collided with a BMW crossover. Both the truck and the BMW ended up off the right side of the road.

The deer did not survive. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, and no one required hospitalization, according to Maine State Police.

The scene was managed by multiple agencies, including the Wells Fire Department, York Police Department, Maine Turnpike Authority, National Wrecker Service, and Troop K Commercial Vehicle Enforcement.
