Racine, WI – A 1989 Racine County cold case is receiving renewed public attention after being featured by the true-crime podcast Crime Junkie, prompting authorities to again ask anyone with information to come forward.
According to the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, Kerry O’Brien-Krueger vanished in 1989 after her husband claimed she had left for a work trip. Investigators later determined that the reported trip did not exist, the agency said.
The sheriff’s office identifies the investigation as a cold case homicide. No arrest or new suspect was announced in Wednesday’s public appeal.
Authorities said investigators have spent decades examining changing accounts, missing evidence and other clues that could help establish what happened to O’Brien-Krueger. The agency did not disclose whether the podcast feature generated any new leads.
The Crime Junkie episode reviews the circumstances surrounding O’Brien-Krueger’s disappearance and the unanswered questions that have remained since 1989. Law enforcement officials are urging listeners and Racine County residents to report anything they may remember, even if the information appeared unimportant at the time.
