Macomb Township Man Charged with Child Abuse After August Crash

Macomb Township, MI — Michael John Shaway, 44, was arraigned Monday in Shelby Township’s 41A District Court. He faces charges related to a single-vehicle crash on August 30, 2024.

Shaway was charged with second-degree child abuse, a 10-year felony, and possession of a controlled substance under 25 grams, a four-year felony. According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, the incident involved a juvenile, who remains in critical but stable condition at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.

Shaway’s bond was set at $50,000 cash/surety, with no ten percent option. He remains lodged in the Macomb County Jail as the investigation continues.

The crash occurred in Macomb Township, and authorities are still investigating its cause. Police have not yet provided further details regarding the circumstances that led to the crash.
