Macomb Township, MI – A fatal crash involving a suspected drunk driver occurred Thursday night in Macomb Township. The suspect, a 36-year-old man, allegedly crossed into the northbound lane on North Avenue, causing a head-on collision.
According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at 10:21 p.m. at North Avenue and Rochelle Drive. Witnesses reported the suspect’s vehicle, a 2017 Chevrolet Impala, drifting into the wrong lane before crashing into a 2010 Acura TL.
The suspect was the only person in his vehicle and suffered critical injuries. Three individuals were in the Acura. The driver sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the front-seat passenger had minor injuries. Tragically, the back-seat passenger died at the scene.
Authorities believe alcohol played a role after deputies detected the smell of intoxicants. The suspect now faces multiple charges, including operating while intoxicated causing death. His bond was set at $500,000, and he remains hospitalized in serious condition.
