Lafayette, La. – Heavy rain continues to pound south-central Louisiana, triggering a flash flood watch across Lafayette, St. Martin, and Iberia parishes through 7 p.m. Saturday, with up to 10 inches of rainfall possible in isolated areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, widespread showers and thunderstorms will persist throughout Friday and into Saturday, dropping between 2 to 4 inches of rain across the region. However, slow-moving or repeated storms may bring significantly higher totals, especially near low-lying areas and bayous.

Flood-prone roads and neighborhoods in Lake Charles, Jennings, Opelousas, and Morgan City are at elevated risk. Emergency managers urge drivers to avoid flooded roadways, noting that even a few inches of moving water can stall vehicles or sweep them away. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains the key safety reminder.

Travel delays and hazardous road conditions are likely along I-10 and Highway 90, especially during periods of intense downpours. Residents are advised to charge devices, check local alerts, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours.

Rain chances remain high through Saturday evening, and additional flood warnings may be issued as conditions evolve.
