Lake Charles, LA – Drivers in central and southwest Louisiana should exercise caution this morning as dense fog continues to blanket the region, reducing visibility to under a quarter mile in many areas. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a dense fog advisory through 9 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the NWS, the advisory impacts roadways including I-10, US 171, and Highway 14, posing a hazard for morning commuters. Reduced visibility could lead to dangerous driving conditions. Motorists are urged to use headlights, slow down, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

Looking ahead, today’s high in Lake Charles will reach 68°F with clear skies expected into New Year’s Day. By Wednesday, temperatures will remain mild, with a high near 61°F, followed by partly cloudy conditions. However, a shift in weather patterns could bring rain and cooler temperatures starting Thursday, with a 40% chance of showers in the evening.

The NWS predicts a significant Arctic air mass will arrive in early January, bringing some of the coldest temperatures of the season to Louisiana. This pattern is expected to persist through mid-January, potentially leading to below-normal temperatures. Residents are encouraged to prepare now by winterizing their homes and vehicles and staying updated with forecasts.

Stay alert for changing conditions this week and check local updates for more information on the Arctic cold front’s impact.
