Louisiana’s muggy late-morning air over Shreveport is setting the stage for another active round of thunderstorms as deep Gulf moisture spreads across the ArkLaTex. Thick clouds continue hovering above downtown streets, and scattered storms could quickly intensify during the afternoon commute.
According to the National Weather Service, Shreveport remains locked into a wet and unsettled weather pattern through at least Thursday. Rain chances steadily increase through midweek, including a 90% chance for showers and thunderstorms Wednesday as a slow-moving frontal boundary stalls near the region.
The strongest storms may produce frequent lightning, brief gusty winds, and torrential downpours capable of flooding low-lying streets. Widespread severe weather is not expected, but isolated stronger cells may develop during peak daytime heating as temperatures climb into the middle 80s.
Drivers along Interstate 20, Interstate 49, and portions of Highway 71 should prepare for sudden visibility drops during heavier rain bands. Ponding water and slick pavement could create hazardous travel conditions, especially near underpasses and poorly drained urban areas around Caddo Parish.
Tuesday begins another uptick in storm coverage as warmer and more humid air deepens across Louisiana and eastern Texas. By Wednesday, repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms could linger for much of the day before slowly weakening later at night.
Across much of the eastern half of the country, a slow-moving weather pattern continues fueling widespread rain and thunderstorms through Memorial Day and beyond. The Gulf Coast and Lower Mississippi Valley remain especially vulnerable to localized flash flooding where soils stay saturated.
For now, summer-like humidity and nearly daily storm chances remain the dominant weather story across northwest Louisiana before a warmer and potentially drier stretch emerges later next week.
