New Orleans, Louisiana – Summerlike heat and humidity are settling over the New Orleans metro through the weekend, with temperatures pushing 89°F and heat indices creeping into the 90s. Mostly sunny skies and rising humidity could pose minor health risks for vulnerable groups, especially during peak afternoon hours.
According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans/Baton Rouge, a high of 89°F is expected Thursday and again by Monday, with overnight lows hovering in the mid-70s. Winds from the south will increase overnight, with gusts reaching up to 20 mph, potentially impacting early morning commuters along the Crescent City Connection and I-10.
Gretna, Metairie, and surrounding Jefferson Parish communities will see increasing clouds Thursday night before skies clear again Friday. Daily highs will stay in the upper 80s with little rain relief. Visibility remains excellent at 10 miles, but the elevated humidity—currently at 88%—may make conditions feel more oppressive during the day.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day. No major storm systems are forecast, but conditions may shift early next week.
Updates from the NWS will follow if any advisories are issued heading into next Tuesday.
