Baton Rouge, LA – Two people died early Friday morning in separate single-vehicle crashes on Louisiana Highway 67, both involving unrestrained drivers, according to authorities.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop A, the first crash occurred shortly after 2 a.m. near Lemon Road in East Baton Rouge Parish. Investigators say 25-year-old Alexus Lee of Baton Rouge was driving a 2013 Toyota Highlander northbound when the vehicle veered off the roadway, struck a culvert, and overturned. Lee, who was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers collected a routine toxicology sample for analysis, though impairment remains unknown.
Less than two hours later, just before 3:45 a.m., troopers responded to another fatal crash on LA 67 at Idlewild Road in East Feliciana Parish. Authorities say 35-year-old John Collins of Clinton was traveling southbound at high speed in a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle exited the roadway and struck a tree. Collins, who was unrestrained, was ejected from the car and died at the scene. Troopers do not suspect impairment but obtained a toxicology sample for testing.
Both incidents are under active investigation. Authorities urge drivers to take basic safety precautions, including always wearing seatbelts, avoiding distractions, and adhering to posted speed limits.
“While not all crashes are preventable, simple precautions like these can save lives,” said Louisiana State Police in a statement.
