Shreveport, LA — A scorching heatwave is set to sweep through Louisiana this week, with Shreveport facing temperatures nearing 100 degrees daily. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Shreveport reports that most areas in Northeast Texas, Southeast Oklahoma, and Southwest Arkansas will also experience similar conditions. The heatwave is expected to begin today and persist throughout the week, with temperatures peaking between 98 and 99 degrees.

According to the NWS, scattered showers and thunderstorms may provide brief relief in some regions, especially near Broken Bow, OK, with a 40% chance of precipitation. However, areas in and around Shreveport are likely to remain mostly dry, with precipitation chances at a mere 10%.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay cool and hydrated during this period of extreme heat. Outdoor activities should be limited during peak afternoon hours when temperatures are at their highest. The prolonged heatwave poses risks of heat-related illnesses, making it crucial to check on vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and children.
