Chicago, IL – Cooler temperatures are expected near Lake Michigan, bringing relief to the Chicago area as the week begins. Highs will range between 74 to 80 degrees today, with the coolest temperatures closer to the lake. A slight chance of showers is possible in central Illinois, but the Chicago area should remain mostly dry until midweek.

According to the National Weather Service, conditions will stay dry through Wednesday, with highs climbing to the low 80s. Tuesday will see clear skies and slightly warmer temperatures, particularly inland. However, a cold front is expected to move through by Thursday, bringing a significant chance of thunderstorms and cooler air.

Thursday and Friday will see highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, with showers and thunderstorms expected to increase, especially later in the week. Rain chances could reach up to 80% by Thursday, making it the wettest day of the week. As the cold front passes, overnight lows will drop into the mid-to-upper 60s, offering a brief respite from the August heat. Residents should be prepared for potential severe weather as the system moves through.
