Alexandria, LA – Former Lecompte Chief of Police Joseph Thompson was arrested for malfeasance in office after an investigation revealed missing evidence. The Louisiana State Police (LSP) arrested him on September 30, 2024, following a warrant issued three days earlier.

According to the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU), an internal review launched in August 2023 discovered missing guns and narcotics from Lecompte Police Department’s evidence storage. The investigation determined that Thompson had allegedly removed and relocated multiple pieces of evidence, including firearms, to his residence.

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Thompson on five counts of malfeasance in office. He was taken into custody and booked at the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Jail on Monday.

The Louisiana State Police continue to lead the investigation, which remains ongoing. No further details have been released at this time.
