Louisiana Driver Charged in Fatal East Baton Rouge Parish Crash

Baton Rouge, LA — A multi-vehicle crash in East Baton Rouge Parish on September 7 claimed the life of a 92-year-old woman. The crash occurred at 2 p.m. at LA Hwy 42 and Interstate 10.

According to the Louisiana State Police, 76-year-old Wayne J. Green of Kenner exited the I-10 off-ramp at high speed. His Toyota Highlander struck the side of a 2020 Acura RDX traveling northbound on Highland Road. The impact forced the Acura into the median, hitting several vehicles.

Mary Harris, 92, of Prairieville, was in the Acura. She died at a local hospital. The driver of the Acura sustained serious injuries. Green, who was also injured, was arrested at the hospital. He faces charges, including negligent homicide and reckless operation.

Debris from the crash hit several other vehicles, but no additional injuries were reported. Police are investigating, and toxicology reports are pending.

Louisiana State Police urge drivers to follow traffic laws, avoid distractions, and ensure all passengers are properly restrained.
