Louisiana Chemical Train Fire Prompts Emergency Response Near US 190; No Evacuations

St. Landry Parish, LA – Louisiana State Police Emergency Services responded Thursday to a fire involving two chemical rail cars on Saint Mary Road, north of US 190.

Technicians discovered that the rail cars were empty and had not released any chemicals. According to the Louisiana State Police (LSP), the Emergency Services Unit (ESU) is now working with Union Pacific Railroad, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and local fire departments to determine the fire’s cause.

The St. Landry Parish Hazardous Materials team is assisting in the investigation. There were no evacuations, and officials assured the public there were no immediate threats to safety.

LSP emphasized that the fire was quickly controlled, and authorities are confident no chemicals were involved. The investigation remains ongoing. Residents near the incident are encouraged to stay informed through updates from local authorities.
