Lake Charles, LA – A powerful storm system is expected to bring severe weather to southeast Texas and central and southwest Louisiana throughout Tuesday, with tornadoes and damaging winds posing the greatest threats.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lake Charles, storms will develop from the morning into the evening, with severe conditions likely in areas including Tyler, Jasper, Newton, Hardin, and Jefferson counties in Texas, as well as Vernon, Rapides, Avoyelles, Calcasieu, Jefferson Davis, Acadia, Cameron, and Vermilion parishes in Louisiana. The most intense weather is expected from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There is a 5-14% probability of tornadoes occurring within 25 miles of a given point, with a heightened risk for damaging winds between 40-50 mph, and isolated higher gusts. The NWS has also issued a High Wind Warning, urging residents to secure outdoor objects and prepare for potential power outages. Coastal flooding is also a concern, with tides expected to rise 1.5 to 2.5 feet above normal levels, leading to possible road and park flooding through 9 p.m.
Residents should stay alert to changing weather conditions and have multiple ways to receive warnings, including NOAA weather radios and emergency alerts.
